Families First Coronavirus Response Act Dear Clients and Friends: On March 18, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (the “FFCRA”), and the President signed it into law. It will become effective on April 2. FFCRA significantly impacts businesses and your employees. We write, first, to assure you that we will be available to answer your questions, to guide you through this crisis, and assist you however we can. You should know that we are, and have been since our opening, fully cloud-based. Though our office remains open and staffed, we are allowing everyone to work remotely if they choose. Whether working remotely or at the office, all of our attorneys and paralegals have full access to their work telephones, their incoming and outgoing e-mail, and virtually all of our documents. You will be able to reach all of us, just as you always have. We will be able to reach each other, and to collaborate to assist you, as we always have. We know that almost all of you have experienced substantial disruptions to your businesses and have critical questions regarding the effect of the relief package passed last week by the federal government. To that end, we have prepared a summary of many of the pertinent provisions of FFCRA, which is attached below. As you review our summary, please keep in mind that the legal landscape is shifting almost literally hour-by-hour, and new federal legislation is expected in the immediate future. Likewise, Governor Hogan announced various funds to assist Maryland businesses.
